June 10th and 11th - Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks, who won the Stanley Cup. Their win was not only special from the standpoint that the team hasn't won the cup since 1961, but also because my Dad and I used to go to a few of their hockey games when I was very young...and it brought back some really nice memories. These pictures and videos show some of the celebration I could capture, as well as some that were shown on TV. - - - The first item is a video that shows the final goal of the Stanley Cup that Chicago scored against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6, and in overtime.
This next clip shows the presentation of the Stanley Cup, then a little of the celebration immediately following the game.
The picture below shows one of our friends (Brian), then Ralph and I (in Buffalo Wild Wings in LaPorte) just after the final goal had been scored.
Although I showed the following picture in an earlier blog (while I was in Canada), I thought it might be best placed in this blog just after the Stanley Cup had been won. Perhaps the earlier picture was a sign of the times that the Cup was coming back to the USA.
The following are some pictures I took while in the famous "Harry Carey" restaurant and bar before our group went to the Chicago Cubs and White Sox in-town rivalary game. - - - The first 2 pictures show the Blackhawks celebrating in downtown Chicago, and the estimated 2 million people that came out to celebrate the team's win.
This next picture shows our group. From left to right, Scott, Jon, Me, Clint. We had fun enjoying the cold beer, good food, and just people-watching.
